Pilates + Ortho Bionomy®

To me Pilates represents healing, strength, empowerment, and sustainability. At age seventeen as a classically trained ballet dancer, I dealt with repeated low-back injuries. After a year of unsuccessful physical therapy I decided to try Pilates as a “last resort." I found that small, subtle movements awakened muscles that were dormant and allowed others to relax. Within two months I was pain-free and able to return to dance.

Amazed and intrigued, I continued studying Pilates and eventually apprenticed, delving deeply into my understanding of anatomy and kinesiology, the Pilates method, and the art of teaching. I began teaching in 2001 and continue to love the work and its evolution.

After teaching for several years and working with clients with a variety of injuries, I noticed that while some pain and tension patterns are directly related to muscle imbalance and/or weakness, other times it is not simply a strength or flexibility issue. I began to study with an Ortho-Bionomy® practitioner and discovered the importance of addressing misalignments and neuromuscular patterns through this gentle form of manual therapy. Eventually completing a 500-hour practitioner-training program, I began utilizing both Pilates and Ortho-Bionomy® in my practice.  Currently I mostly work with clients dealing with recovery from injury, illness, and chronic pain.

I have trained Pilates teachers in a program recognized by the Pilates Method Alliance and continue my own education in both Pilates and Ortho-Bionomy®. l still love dancing, now with a focus on Contemporary and West-African dance.
